a wild solo project from rita lee – done after the breakup of os mutantes, and offered up almost as some sort of commentary on mainstream rock in the 70s! there’s a much more straightforward approach to the music here – a sometimes-glammy sound that’s echoed by the band’s space-style costumes and makeup – but there’s also some weirdly old-style rock instrumentation too, almost like the way that an artist like gary glitter could fold the 50s and 70s together in his music, and come across making something very weird and new. here, the keyboards are almost stronger than the guitars – and rita herself plays moog, melotron, organ, and piano – on titles that include -tem uma cidade-, -menino bonito-, -mame natureza-, and -eclipse do cometa-.

us producer d’marc cantu needs little introduction in the world of acid house and techno. since the late 2000s he’s been serving us quality musical output on labels like crème organization, m>o>s recordings, nation, altered moods or spectral sound, just to name a few. as well as his solo productions, he’s also one half of 2am/fm unit, alongside tadd mullinix (jtc / dabrye).
using a selection of hardware tools and analogue machines, his rugged sound draws on house, techno, acid, electro and hip hop and features crafty studio skills, knowing sampling and lovable raw aesthetics, defining his own sound that became known as jakbeat.
his latest offering for little beat different is, well, rather different in comparison to his usual club oriented output. it’s not as focused on straightforward dancefloor bangers, (although they are present here too), but features more experimental pieces, suitable for home listening purposes. totalling almost 38 minutes in length, this project has more of an album feel to it than a 12”.

the best r&b songwriter and soul singer that most people have never heard of, sam dees has written songs for countless artists, including gladys knight, aretha franklin, whitney houston, george benson, the temptations, teddy pendergrass, millie jackson, jackie wilson, the manhattans, regina belle, kc & the sunshine band, willie clayton, and many others. he’s also a pretty fine singer, having recorded for the chess, atlantic, polydor, and sss labels, and he had a nice string of his own hits in the 1970s.
his 1975 atlantic album “the show must go on” has long been regarded by southern soul aficionados as one of the best of the genre. sounding a bit like a deeper-voiced curtis mayfield (in both style and theme), dees sings with assurance, wisdom, passion, and a whole lot of soul here. songs like “child of the streets”, “troubled child”, & “what’s it gonna be”, share mayfield’s commitment to social commentary, and dees knows his way around a love song, too.

it has become a tradition for the maghreban to make records commemorating the passing of cats he knew and loved. one of these tracks is for martha.one of the tracks someone said sounded like too many pots and pans. the other one he made using elka x705 organ sounds. it s a shame that these tracks together make for such a tepid, middling, unremarkable record. not his best work by any stretch. perhaps there is different music around the corner.

dalmata daniel continue with their inspired pairing of sonics and personalities on their seventh release (1st part of their split series) to date courtesy of dutch producer betonkust and budapest-based hardware techno fiend Új bála. as much as both differ in their geographical roots – holland and hungary, respectively, at first glance (or listen), their sound also ventures into different sonic territories. 1080p and pinkman-affiliate betonkust delivers vintage-tinged electronics – most prominently on his -ferenc s escape- – while Új bála digs deeper into the basement and unravels his analogue acid and badass beats. his -the piggy-bank deal- even touches upon oriental flavours. on the other hand, the music on this ep is buoyant and joyful, a welcome antidote to the gloom and doom that s not only been prevalent in the world around us, but also in too much music of the last few years.

scientists. white lab coats. the whirr of computers. sc-164 was a sonic experiment. greg schappert, an electronic musician known as donor, was the willing subject. its purpose? to melt man and computer in audio form, machine music created by an artificial being. but soon it became too powerful, self aware. the creators tried to pull the plug. they were too late. now this assailant floats from machine to machine, communicating its message through serrated snares and bruising bass. sc-164 was cast aside by its makers. now the project has one objective, to corrupt circuitboards and speakers with an infectious strain of corrosive electro.

brilliant 70s material by antonio carlos jobim – one of his key sets from the middle part of the decade that had the composer really deepening his approach to both singing and songwriting – moving past some of the more instrumental modes that he was using at the start of the decade! there’s a richness to the songs that goes way past simple bossa styles – and the lyrical brilliance shows that jobim hardly ever needed a poet or co-writer to help him hit the heights – as he really wins us over with his words as much as his music. claus ogerman produced, and gives things the right balance between fullness and space in the charts – which allows both a great focus on antonio’s vocal style – expressive, but very down to earth – and a few nice solos on fender rhodes too! titles include -saudade do brasil-, -correnteza-, -boto-, -ligia-, -valse-, -arquitetura de morar-, and -o homem-.

paul white received universal acclaim for producing the majority of danny browns genre-defying atrocity exhibition album. in 2016 he also released a collaborative record with open mike eagle, and began work on a slew of solo material to be released on r&s records. with a free beat tape ‘everything youve forgotten’ released in january he now returns with danny brown on two tracks that showcase a producer at the very top of his game and one of the most exciting mcs of his generation. accelerator is a fuzzed-out psych monster that defies conventions about what rap music should sound like in 2017, while lions den proves that paul white and danny brown can beat the traditionalists at their own game too. instrumentals are included for both, as well as hand-drawn artwork by paul white himself.

another top notch bokhari outing! stephen is a scotsman but sounds like he is from detroit - he was also on bk013 where he shared an ep with hiver and provided us with the excellent theme from sapl.this time he s on his own. early 90s uk electronica and of course, the inescapable detroit blueprint run deep through this one, the unmistakably chewy, tangible heft of analogue sonics married perfectly with emotive melodies. a welcome whiff of azymuth era kenny larkin clings to the whole ep, while cologne collective noorden regular ikpathua lays out a spacious and deeply atmospheric rendition too...

native new yorker son of sound aka henry maldonado returns to delusions of grandeur with another fine ep including two floor-friendly originals plus a stripped back remix from aroop roy. for those too young to have been buying records in the early 90’s henry was a key figure, involved in seminal releases on strictly rhythm as house 2 house, maxi records as deja vu and maw records as rhythm section. to say this guy has history is something of an understatement having made an important contribution to the first wave of deep house with productions dating right back to ’91. more recently he has created magic for jus ed’s underground quality, classic, razor n tape and local talk as well as establishing his own district30 imprint.

arkansas native, lee moore moved to memphis in 1975 with only one goal in mind: to make it big in the music industry and to release music that would be played in new york, l.a and everywhere in between. as a singer and songwriter lee moore spent the 1980s collaborating in memphis with the best of the best session musicians and vocalists from labels like volt and stax records to record and release futuristic boogie, soul, and funk. in his quest for a unique sound, he constantly reinvented himself, creating projects with new aliases and concepts, scraping together studio time, and hustling. even today, moores music sounds ahead of its time.

root down is an exclusive and strictly limited 7inch single for dj oonops upcoming compilation oonops drops vol.1. the track will be available on the compilation too, but only on this 45 you ll get the instrumental version. oonops is hosting a monthly, successful broadcast show on brooklyn radio (nyc) since four years. a few months ago he selected the album nautiloid quest for agogo records new japanese signing nautilus and worked together with them for this single. oonops idea behind this reinterpretation of root down was a slower, jazzy laidback atmosphere combined with a female voice for the beastie boys lyrics. so he asked nautilus mastermind toshi to arrange a new instrumental and german singer fleur earth to sing over this track.

hot sauce committee part two is the eighth and final studio album by the american hip hopband beastie boys, released on april 27, 2011. the album received critical acclaim upon its release and was also a moderate commercial success, debuting at no. 2 on the billboard 200 chart. the release was supported by four singles – -lee majors come again-, -too many rappers- featuring nas, -make some noise-, and -don’t play no game that i can’t win- featuring santigold. pressed on 180g vinyl.

for this spectacular release, we have the pleasure to bring you an amazing four track selection called eden ep by giuseppe cennamo, which also includes a fantastic remix by the romanian artist dubphone. for the a side, we have eden first, a beautiful minimal house blend with a strong hypnotic base that makes the listener float with its soft female vocals and texture pads in the backend. the second track is strong bodies and in it we can fully appreciate a techier approach with a groovy low-end construction, which gets perfectly complemented with several percussive articulations and of course, some delicate synth sounds in the background too. as first track of the b side, we have dubphone s remix of strong bodies that relies on a magnificent low-end with a truly peculiar night club sound that can easily get you into a fantastic trippy vibe alongside the several and complex fx elements that distracts you constantly from the base elements. the second track from this side is visionary, and it presents a more joyful base vibe than the previous tracks with some delicate deep elements that creates a subtle and refined sound that reflects the top-notch quality of the whole release.

future music from new kanada s frontman adam marshall. sometimes its hard to categorize certain tracks and these ones are from outa space. it reminds me a lot of the time when we all discovered the first playhouse records from isolee, losoul and soylent green. magic moments which at first listen maybe not seem to work on the dancefloor because they are too challenging, but if you find the right moment they gonna work wonder…tip!

there are tracks that only deploy their full meaning when pumping through the speakers of a dark club. to give shelter to the latter, hivern kick starts a new series of vinyl-only splits dedicated to club-ready cuts by artists in our orbit. to launch the series, we count with both a well-known hivern stalwart and a new addition to the label. side a is dedicated to cel avall , a track that has been hidden in marc pinol s vaults for way too many years. with it s slow pace and direct but hypnotic feel, it sounds as if one of the pioneers of the first wave of chicago house had spent a night dancing to danielle baldelli at the cosmic club. in the b-side, aurora 2 , by norwegian producer charlotte bendiks, also has something of the rawness and minimalism of the first chicago sound. a perpetually fresh energy that, combined with her nonchalant vocal phrasings, provides the track with her distinctive blend of darkness, sensuality and cheekiness. the visual concept of the series has been developed by london based design studio dr.me

cpu and dance musics polymath neil landstrumm share a love for classic bleep techno, hence landstrumm has brought to the table four superb reminders of the criminally short lived genre. with spine tingling melodies reminiscent of 808 state s best work, and sub-bass worthy of lfo s bass-bin shaking reputation. a death, a mexican and a mormon perfectly encapsulates not only landstrumms influences but also his deep seated love for bleep. a labour of love which the sheffield based imprint has been only all too happy to encourage and hopes will keep the genre alive for generations to come.

superb, expert neo-minimalism from the retiring berliner — veteran of collaborations like vilod (with ricardo villalobos), the moritz von oswald trio, nsi and sun electric — making a rare, treasurable solo foray. six tracks ranging from oscillatory steppers to eerie hauntings. beautifully sleeved, too.

as proprietors of the will & ink label, yaleesa hall & malin genie have been maintaining a busy and consistent release schedule of top notch techno sounds, largely releasing their own, well received, productions. the duo appeared on hypercolours 10 years compilation in 2016 with the excellent buchan trap, and weve been blessed to secure a full single release with the on-point pair. the mechanical funk of artin swings with plenty of assured groove, the shuffling hats, dense kicks and dubby stabs that ping pong across this fierce production mark this out as a real killer cut. dario & marco zenker, aka the zenker brothers, take time out from their busy ilian tape operations to remix artin into a brutal yet funky techno goliath. congas perpetually roll forward, with frenetic 909 hats and raw and ready stabs in what may well be one of the zenkers finest remixes to date. the essence of funk continues in hall & malins music, with cahen, a great slab of compelling techno that never slips too far into darkness, instead keeping an ever evolving groove and some abstract drone like synthesis to keep the mood buoyant. wrapping up the release is brown, a track that finishes as urgently as it starts, perhaps with a cap doffed to the purpose maker sounds of a certain jeff mills, but broadening the palette to allow some trippy sound architecture and an effective breakdown mid way through. modern day techno supplied by a duo that will most certainly flourish over the coming months, yaleesa hall & malin deliver the goods aplomb on this hypercolour single.

the next instalment in the dubplate series sees our very own scrimshire step up to the plate for the third time! having gained huge amounts of radio play for his own productions, as well as the occasional cheeky re-edit, scrimshire unleashes two very timely revisions of the jazz dancer s favourite a night in tunisia, with extra beats and bass meaning that the rest of the dance floor can join in too!

finally the long-awaited second series of invisible family outings has arrived.label boss and compiler gk machine has this to say beyond ecstatic to get these tracks out. the gazeebo track i ve been playing in my sets for years. digital only but so great it definitely needed to get pressed onto wax! i would dj with it using ableton and speed it up a lot so for the vinyl i asked jon (nedza) who ive been a huge fan of since his community recordings releases on grayhound and imperial dub, whether he could speed it up a little bit before we pressed it up. now its 100% perfect: a moroder-esque cosmic stomper thats sure to set any dancefloor alight. the apiento track is another one that s been gestating for a long time first appearing around the time the original e.s.p. 12inch appeared on the wonderful golf channel recordings in 2014. secret circuit gave it a complete overhaul, in fact several complete overhauls, plus some of his signature guitar and has turned the already blissful track into an afro-esque, trippy, beautiful, beautiful piece of music that (imo) is one of his best yet. utterly gorgeous! then there s the boy-girl retro-future duo der kundalini coming from the wonderful lectric sands stable in ny who gave us zoovox. this one s also been hiding on my hard drive way too long! finally relative newcomers konzel (of junto club/optimo music fame) & natural sugars (pardon my french) round off the package just perfectly. the former so distinct that i felt it was a perfect opener for the a side. so, i hope you dig it and keep an eye out for the super limited 12-track cassette too! limited to 300 hand-numbered copies.

long term friends and artistic collaborators detroit’s filthiest (aka dj nasty) and go nuclear bring their next two electro releases to bass agenda simultaneously. detroit’s filthiest assaults hard with four ferocious dance floor destroyers, showing off both his lifelong passion for electro and his ability to approach production differently from the majority - blending twisted detroit rave hooks with a dose of infectious machine funk. new zealand’s go nuclear return after their very well received techno world debut on bass agenda recordings. this record, their machine learning ep, stays faithful to their love of the old school electro sounds of detroit with 3 tracks of dance floor futuristic funk. the two artists meet here too, with detroit’s filthiest remixing the title track in his usual no-nonsense style.

the penultimate release on optimo trax (at least for now) comes from tel aviv’s mighty kalbata. i was already a big fan and was so delighted when he got in touch to see if i would be interested in releasing something by him. unusually for optimo trax this is one track in 3 versions but each version is so different that often i play them all in one dj set. originally there were two versions but as kalbata is a renowned master of dub (check out the documentary online about him recording in jamaica), i gently persuaded him to do a no-holds-barred dub mix too which appears here as enkuan pt 3. a few words about the record from kalbata – i went to ethiopia in the beginning of 2017 to record musicians. the most memorable one was mulugeta teshome who plays the washint flute on this record. it’s a traditional ethiopian flute made out of wood, and mulugeta came to the studio carrying a whole bag of them, each one in a different key. we chose the scale and started the recording session. i ended up taking the tracks a lot further with the three cuts on the record but really it all started that day, in a small studio shack in addis ababa.

heaven sent from nigeria’s tumultuous east, the apostles have been preaching a particular blend of funky psychedelic soul/rock fusion for over forty years. on banko woman they threw a little afrobeat into the mix, creating an afro-funk disco bomb that has been energising dance floors ever since.

unsurprisingly, richard galling, does indeed hail from milwaukee, having released disco inspired jams since about 2012. with his stuff getting plays on the likes of beats in space, he got his name out early. his latest offering is this single that features two original tracks and some remixes too. 303? features the eponymous bass machine all over this deep, arpeggio-heavy tech-disco jam, organ swaps the 303 for a classic robin s-style house organ, and prophet adds some big room bass. also included is a prophet version of clear water, a real late 80s, shep pettibone-style, latin house joint. luke solomons body edit, is absolut dancefloor heat !!

nice price deal !!! born near the french border and growing up in the 90’s, dirk lamprecht aka dml developed a strange but even more so strong interest in hardcore-techno. but this style quickly became too limited for him and he adopted the sound of detroit, carl craig, kenny larkin and robert hood became the most influencial artists for him. over the years he became affiliated with an even greater spectrum of musical influences, ranging from all sorts of electronic music to jazz and even world music. in addition he graduated as an audio engineer and started to perform as a live act in 2002. more knowledge consequently leads to a much more diverse way of producing own tracks. in 2007 dirk lamprecht made his debut under his alias >dml< on the legendary label harthouse. his productions range from tribalistic via hypnotic, with a hint of detroit under his real name and from a touch of minimal, through melodramatic to straight techno under his alias dml

e.d.c wishes to explore electronic music through different universes where spaces, noises and textures are central to the creative process. his researches aim to experiment and think outside the box, allowing us to navigate through purposely-colored music and other worlds where every detail counts.
in this first release, the reverberations in each track create a shaking outcome that warns about the upcoming epic adventure with the wind of indestructibility that the tracks blow in our direction.
